Day 6 - Florence sightseeing Today enjoy a scenic train ride into the Florence city center for your Florence Walking Tour. Visit the Academy Gallery to see Michelangelo’s original Statue of David, a truly awesome sight. Then view the Cathedral to see Giotto’s Bell Tower and Baptistry with its impressive ‘Gates of Paradise’. These buildings demonstrate the traditions of Florentine art and architecture from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Also see the open air museum of Piazza Della Signoria & Santa Croce, which houses the tombs of Michelangelo and Galileo. The insightful walking tour also features a stroll across the famous Ponte Vecchio Bridge lined with shops. Later explore this beautiful city on your own. Maybe shop for gold jewelry & leather items and enjoy an outdoor cafe. This afternoon return by train to Montecatini Terme and enjoy the evening at leisure. (B) Day 7 - SIENA & SAN GIMIGNANO This morning travel to Siena, the heart of Tuscany. Enjoy a Siena Walking Tour through the medieval streets to the dramatic Campo, scene of the annual Palio horse race. Also see the town’s famous black and white striped cathedral and enjoy some time at leisure in this beautiful city. Later travel to the famous hilltop town of San Gimignano, one of the most picturesque of Italy’s perfectly preserved medieval towns with towers built in the 12th century. Join your Tour Director and fellow passengers on a stroll through the quaint streets and visit Piazza della Cisterna, one of Italy’s most beautiful town squares. Later visit and experience a Tuscan Farmhouse Dinner & Wine Tasting featuring typical Tuscan dishes paired with a selection of local wines. (B,D) Day 8 - Tuscany - Verona - Venice area Today travel northeast and stop in Verona, site of Romeo & Juliet’s fateful story. During your Verona Walking Tour visit Juliet’s House with its famous Balcony and see the 22,000 seat Verona Arena, a Roman amphitheater, built in 30 AD, and still in use as a venue for large-scale opera performances. Later, arrive in Venice Mestre for a 2-night stay. Venice Mestre is a gateway to Venice which is built on 117 islands with 150 canals and 400 bridges, truly one of the world’s most unique cities. This evening enjoy dinner with your fellow travelers. (B,D) Day 9 - VENICE SIGHTSEEING This morning board a train for a short ride into Venice for a Venice Walking Tour. From the station take a boat ride to St. Mark’s Square to see St. Mark’s Basilica & admire the Campanile, a brick bell tower that rises above the piazza. Entrance is included to the lavish Doge’s Palace, built in 1340. See the famous Bridge of Sighs located within the Palace. Next, enjoy an iconic Venice Gondola Ride. Sit back, relax and glide gracefully through the picturesque canals with a master gondolier. The afternoon is at leisure to wander through this unique city. Getting lost for a few minutes in the narrow pedestrian only streets of Venice is part of the experience. This evening enjoy a Farewell Dinner with your fellow travelers and recount your experiences in Italy. (B,D) Day 10 - VENICE AIRPORT - FLIGHT HOME Fly home with wonderful memories of your travels through Classical Italy. (B) Land only rates do not include hotel transfers. Day 2 - ARRIVE ROME, ITALY Arrive in Rome, meet your Tour Director and transfer to your hotel for a 2-night stay. The ‘Eternal City’ is the capital and largest city in Italy. Rome, as a center of power, culture and religion, has exerted a huge influence over the world in its roughly 2800 years of existence. This evening enjoy a Roman Feast Welcome Dinner with Wine and Entertainment. (D) Day 3 - ROME SIGHTSEEING Today enjoy a Rome City Tour. Join your local guide and visit the Colosseum, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and the largest ancient amphitheater ever built. The arena was made of limestone, volcanic rock and concrete for gladiatorial contests and other events with a capacity of 80,000. Then see the Roman Forum, Palantine Hill, Circus Maximus, Piazza Venezia, the Pantheon & make a photo stop at the famous Trevi Fountain. Later see St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, the papal enclave within the city of Rome. The late afternoon and evening will be at leisure to enjoy a cafe, shop and have a great Italian meal. (B) Day 4 - rome - Assisi - Tuscany Today travel north into the Umbrian countryside to the beautiful hilltop town of Assisi. During your Assisi Walking Tour visit both the upper and lower parts of the great Basilica of St. Francis. Everything is Assisi is in some way associated with St. Francis, who was born here in 1182. Later arrive at your hotel in the Tuscan resort and spa town of Montecatini Terme for a 4-night stay. This evening enjoy dinner at your hotel including Tuscan favorites and locally produced wine with your fellow travelers. (B,D) Day 5 - Lucca - Cooking class - Pisa This morning visit Lucca and explore the Old Town filled with quaint shops and stunning Gothic palaces. Lucca’s exceptionally well preserved Renaissance-era city walls around the historic center are an architectural marvel. Next, enjoy a Pasta Cooking Class Lunch & Wine Tasting at a Tuscan Farmhouse. The chef discusses the class and recipe, and the restaurant staff will assist with your aprons to let the cooking fun begin. Later enjoy lunch along with a wine tasting to learn about and sample a selection of local wines. Then travel through the lush countryside with views of vineyards to one of the most famous cities in Italy, Pisa. Here you will walk into the Piazza Dei Miracoli to see the Duomo, the historic Baptistry and the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa, an amazing sight to see. Be sure to get your picture holding up the tower which is 180 feet high and no less than 13 feet off the perpendicular. Later return to your Montecatini Terme hotel for an evening at your own pace.
